The Oasis (Beckoned)

At first glance, it appears to be a mirage, some clever deceit caused by the heat-laden dunes. The caravan pauses to rest, and the air within the caravan begins to shimmer. A cool breath of wind exhales outward, laden with the scent of water, fresh herbs, and sweet blossoms of the desert. An oasis starts to surface. As if some hidden force beckons, vines unfurl and creep, spilling verdant life all over the sands. Water flows in the distance in a soothing rhythm. The air carries the cool scent of dates and jasmine. Formerly barren, palm fronds now sway and cast shadow dapples upon the land. Smooth stones encircle the pools which shine with the sun’s rays, impossibly clear.Some people claim, and it is certainly a strange one, they glimpse flashes of a distant golden light, at times. Perhaps it's an ancient guardian bestowing their love? For others, it seems the mere thought of it is enough to feel a cool strange breeze brushing the skin that is accompanied by the earth sinking far below the feet. Only to realize the oasis is not a fantasy and it is a warm embrace to all.
